Hi Andreas
I’m Kassandra from the Swiss Rock/Gothic/Industrial/Metal webzine Medazzarock. That name resulted from something called Medazzaland. Do you know what Medazzaland is?

No, never heard of that.

Medazzaland is the ninth album by British pop rock group Duran Duran.

Of course we know Duran Duran, there’s a big fan community all over the world.

I read in the news of your website that Bone W Machine (Drums) has to make a tour break at the moment because of a tennis elbow. How is he?

He is back in Sweden right now. He had a lot of pain, so he had no power in the arm. So we flew in another drummer from Sweden, Oscar De La Renta. It works very well with him. We’ve known him for a longer time.

Are you sporty?

Yeah, I run and work out but not now, when we’re on tour. That would be too complicated when you’re always on the road.

One of the most hyped up games at the moment called “Brütal Legend” features the Deathstars song Blitzkrieg in the soundtrack. Do you know this game?

I heard about that but I don’t know this game. I don’t play any video games. The other guys like to do that. But not me, no.

Your third album “Night Electric Night” is out since January 2009. You still like it?

YES OF COURSE! Otherwise I wouldn’t have written it.

Which of your albums do you like most or least?

Hmmmm… I think the last two albums are more what Deathstars are about than the first album. I can put it like that.

Did you make any progress or improvements with “Night Electric Night”?

Yes, I think we have grown a lot. We are much more relaxed as a band nowadays than at the beginning. And we are better on every level and every instance. But it’s not like we are sitting down and talking about how to do the next album. People may get this impression of us that everything is very well planned but that’s really not. It’s more like a natural process and it’s all about the songs and not how good we’re playing or something like that. No masturbation with the instruments or gay stuff… just kidding J

What’s the story behind “Via The End”?

It’s about Emil’s situation in his life. His brother did by suicide. This is the only song… well usually Deathstars songs have a lot of humor in it or a lot of irony, or we make fun. But this song is very serious and different. There are a lot of emotions behind it and it’s very important for us personally.

How do you manage your success with the Deathstars?

Of course it’s great! But I’m still hanging around with my best friends and it’s nice to see that there is a very positive direction.

Do you all still live in Sweden?

Yes. But I have a lot of plans to move to another place, I haven’t decided yet but I could imagine moving to Barcelona or Milano. Let’s see what will happen.

Now you’re on tour with Diary Of Dreams, Lacrimas Profundere and Dope Stars Inc. Did you know them before?

We’ve knows Dope Stars for several years. The other ones… no, not really, but I like them. I like all the bands with which we are on tour now. We often sit together but we travel and live in different busses, four busses.

What happened to The Birthday Massacre? They were originally announced as support band instead of Lacrimas Profundere.

No idea!

Have you ever been on tour with a band you didn’t like?

Well, it happens that you don’t get along with some people or that you don’t like the music. But then you get to like their music because you listen to it every evening, you’re getting into it and learn to understand it better. But usually everything is fine. Mostly there is a very special environment on tour and everyone respects each other.

With which band would you like being on tour?

There a lot of such bands! For example Mötley Crüe, Alice Cooper and KISS. Or Madonna maybe?

With which female singer would you like to sing a duet?

Hmmm, Yoko Ono.

Why Yoko Ono?

Why not?

You call your music style Death Glam. Do you think Deathstars created or invented this kind of music?

Yes of course we invented it! It was something I brought up, because people didn’t know what they should make of us. They were confused about our mix of rock, pop music and disco, influenced by Black Metal. So I called it Death Glam. People call us Goths but we are really NOT a Gothic band. And we’re also not a Metal band or a Death Metal band. It’s nice that now a lot of bands take on kind of music style.

If you had to choose another kind of music, which style would you like?

R’nB… HA HA! Well I do other stuff besides Deathstars, for me personally. Pop music and even Death Metal.

A movie director asks you to be the main actor in some Hollywood movie – which person in which movie would you like to play?

Tom Cruise in Top Gun.

If you were offered to perform Frankenstein in a movie – would you accept?

Äääääähhh… yeah, why not?.

Have you ever tried as an actor? Maybe in school…

No! And I really think I suck on being an actor. But actually, Cat was in a movie that got a nomination for an Oscar. He acted as a guitarist in a movie from a very famous Swedish director. I think he would love to be an actor.

What are your plans for the future?

We just want to continue what we do right now and focus on writing a new album and doing that as good as we can. We usually don’t look more that 6 months ahead; otherwise there would be too much chaos - we have to take one step at a time.

Finally I’d like to give you some keywords. Please tell me shortly what comes to you mind:

Switzerland: Celtic Frost

Sweden: Roxette

Michael Jackson: amazing!

Madonna: even better!

ABBA: funny

Skinny: sexy

Bone: crazy

Nightmare: smart
